CUANM Welcomes Melia D. Heimbuck as VP of Advocacy & Risk Management

The Credit Union Association of New Mexico (CUAMN) has hired Melia D. Heimbuck, Esq, to serve in the league’s newly created position of Vice President of Advocacy & Risk Management.
Juan E. Fernández Ceballos, CUANM’s President & CEO, shared, “Melia will support New Mexicans by working with in-state credit unions to drive change, economic development and shape policy through governmental and regulatory affairs work at both the New Mexico State Legislature and with our Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.” He added, “New Mexico credit unions, large and small, will benefit from Melia’s commitment to helping credit unions and their surrounding communities comply with federal regulations and requirements.”
Heimbuck was most recently the Principal of Risk Management Solutions and Strategic Advisor for CU Solutions Group (CUSG). In this role, Melia actively worked with Leagues/Associations and credit unions to develop sound risk management solutions. She was responsible for leading the Governance, Risk, and Compliance suite of products offered by CU Risk Intelligence. Prior to CUSG, she spent more than 18 years supporting credit unions in Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming through the Mountain West Credit Union Association (MWCUA). She held various positions
at the MWCUA, which included responsibility for driving the AffirmX partnership that created a sustainable compliance management tool for credit unions of all asset sizes, providing compliance guidance and assistance to credit unions, development, and delivery of strategic planning, leading small credit union initiatives, providing training, asset/liability management, budgeting, fundraising, grant writing, board of director management and regulatory advocacy.
Heimbuck is a licensed attorney with a Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law, Master of Business Administration in Business Finance from Regis University, Bachelor’s Degree in Business Finance from the University of Northern Colorado, as well as holds the Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) and Development Educator of the United Kingdom (DEUK) designations from the National Credit Union Foundation.
