“Education is a powerful tool for change and improvement. Our 2022/2023 scholarship winners have demonstrated a clear commitment to improving their lives, families, and communities through their dedication to academic success,” said Amy Vigil, NMCUEF Administrator & VP of Association Services for the Credit Union Association of New Mexico. “NMCUEF scholarship recipients are New Mexico’s next leaders, and we are proud to help our recipients pursue post-secondary education to prepare for their eventual career paths.”

Established in 1992, the New Mexico Credit Union Education Foundation was formed following special legislation that allows credit unions to use abandoned funds for educational and charitable purposes. The credit union-led foundation has awarded $1,940,600 worth of scholarships to 2,297 students attending NM-based and accredited colleges, universities, and vocational or technical schools. NMCUEF scholarship recipients must be New Mexico residents who demonstrate a continued commitment to academic success by submitting a personal essay and meeting several requirements, including grade point average and full-time enrollment.
